Drawing to a close

So these will be the last scans of MY sketchbook but come back because I think a few others still have some good work to show off.

I'll be posting more at www.meldedrabbit.blogspot.com so come on by if you want to see more of my scribbling.

These are the dregs. They are pages that got left half finished or didn't ever gel together or it was an off day. But there's something on them that made me like them enough to scan.

Not a good drawing day but I like the cat heads on the right. Thanks for posing Finnegan

Drive By

I sketched this page on a road trip to visit Antietam Battlefield. I played one of my favorite games where I sketch the folks that drive by. Those are the heads on the right. I only get a few seconds to see the person so the drawing is an interesting mix of memory and observation.
PS I do not look good in sunglasses. Never have. Never will.

Quick and Late

These were done in about two minutes while waiting at the doctors office. I hate doctor offices, especially the waiting rooms.

Feeling After God

I drew this after reading a book on Islamic history called Destiny Disrupted. The book made me think a lot about what people feel when they search for God. It's not my favorite sketch but I liked what I thought about when I made it.

Hmong Dabs

These are dabs. I was reading The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman which describes the Hmong people's belief in powerful spirits, dabs, which can injure or cause illness or protect and assist humans. While I was drawing, Aaron looked over and said what are you drawing? Are you okay? That looks crazy. Are you going to show that to other people? They might think you're crazy if they see that.
Anyway, I really like the dab's cat face on the right.

Your Interpretation?

I made this sketch in the dregs of sleep deprivation when my baby was only a few days old. This is what came out of my head. I have NO idea where it came from or what it is or what is happening. I'd love to hear your interpretations of what is going on between these two.

Latecomer

I failed to post anything before the project went in the mail. But I will post here. Ex post facto posts, so to speak. Hope you enjoy. You may detect a theme.

Each Other

This is a sketch from life of a couple at my church that often fall asleep in each other's arms, in the middle of the sacrament meeting. They're both rather interesting individuals. Whenever I see either of them, I often find myself thinking how glad I am they found each other.

PS Sorry for the absence. The recent snow storm knocked our power out. We got it back today. I love you, electricity!

Paying the Piper

Aaron gets drawn a lot for a lot of reasons. He's good at getting stuck working for hours at a time which makes him stay in the same spot for a while. I like looking at him. And he lives with me. Here's a sketch I made of him working long into the night. If you are wondering, he's wearing a hood because our house is cold and because he thinks his hair is too long and needs to be cut.

Pen Switch

I was doodling in Sunday School and here's what I ended up with. I was excited because a guy in front of me fell asleep - perfect for drawing. But Reuben stole my pen and by the time I found another, the blue one, the guy woke up and left.

My Favorite Page

I think this is my favorite page of the sketchbook. I'm posting it in honor of Miriam's half year birthday which is today.

From No Where

This person doesn't exist. I was drawing from out of my head and this is what I got. Boy? Girl? I couldn't decide. But they have freckles. Freckles like stars in the sky.

To The Limit

So I spent yesterday finishing up. I lost count but I think I filled in something like 15 pages - while hanging out with my two compadres. This was one of my favorite pages. It was the first page of the sketchbook. More to come.

Done

Well, it's finished. I might be embarrassed to claim some of the pages (particularly the ones where I practiced drawing cats - my nemesis) Here are some samples:
